Dr. Tengiz Tkebuchava, MD, PhD, is a globally recognized regenerative medicine specialist and the founder of the American Center of Regenerative Medicine in Georgia – RegMed Georgia. Dr. Tengiz Tkebuchava graduated from Tbilisi State Medical University with Summa Cum Laude honors before continuing his work at the Bakulev Cardiovascular Surgery Center in Moscow, where he completed his PhD. In 1989, he was invited to Switzerland, continuing his career in renowned cardiac surgery centers in Zurich and London. In 1997, he moved to the United States, where he was granted U.S. citizenship as an “Alien of Extraordinary Ability,” a designation awarded to individuals with exceptional achievements recognized internationally.
Throughout his career, Dr. Tengiz Tkebuchava has combined clinical practice, scientific research, and medical innovation. As a professor at Tufts University in Boston, he delivered lectures and presentations at Harvard and other leading institutions. He has developed and patented numerous medical technologies, published extensively on congenital and acquired cardiac pathologies, and contributed surgical innovations now used in hospitals worldwide. His work includes developing new surgical approaches for pediatric and adult cardiac patients, and proposing novel options for heart transplantation.
As an early pioneer in regenerative medicine, Dr. Tengiz Tkebuchava conducted groundbreaking research on regenerative bioagents and their therapeutic applications. He studied various combinations of regenerative therapies, explored optimal delivery methods to the heart, and performed extensive experimental operations. During Georgia’s socio-political crisis in the 1990s, he organized charitable aid, providing medical assistance, food, and essential supplies to affected families. Today, Dr. Tengiz Tkebuchava continues to divide his time between Georgia and the United States, attending international conferences, collaborating with global experts, and refining new therapeutic approaches in regenerative medicine. His family remains in Boston, while his professional dedication brings him regularly to Georgia, where he continues to build and expand the country’s first and only regenerative medicine center.
